A Kayema Thermosiphon system installed on a home in North Eastern Johannesburg

Kayema has a dedicated network of agents and installers that are responsible for providing solar water heating solutions to the residential market.

Kayema Energy Solutions (Pty) Ltd is able to supply any combination of the following systems::
Closed Loop (alt. indirect) refers to a system whereby the heating of the water within a solar water storage tank (geyser) is achieved indirectly, by circulating an externally heated fluid through a heat exchanger, without ever coming directly into contact with the potable water itself. A non-toxic glycol solution is used to transfer heat from the solar collectors to the water in the tank via the heat exchanger.

Example of a closed loop system

Open Loop (alt. direct) refers to a system in which the potable water from the geyser is passed through a solar collector, and is directly heated by the sun. There is no heat exchanger used in this type of system.
Split System refers to a design in which the solar collectors are separated from the tank and is normally only used when there is a substantial distance between the collector and the geyser. A split system can be either open (indirect) or closed (direct) loop.
Thermosiphon (alt. thermosyphon) refers to a method of passive heat exchange based on natural convection which circulates liquid in a vertical closed-loop circuit without requiring a conventional pump. Its intended purpose is to simplify the pumping of liquid and/or heat transfer, by avoiding the cost and complexity of a conventional liquid pump. The water tank must always be placed above the collectors in order for a thermosiphon system to work correctly
